This week, I did some additional world building and started retooling one of my characters. I struggled writing this particular character the first time around, so I’m going through the draft and smoothing out her arc a bit. I ended up redoing her entire character sheet and “taking her to lunch” to get to know her a bit more. Now I’m working on rewriting every place she appears in the novel.

This week, I did some world building!
Yes, I probably should have done that before I even wrote my first draft. But that never actually happens. I always intend to do all of the world building beforehand, but I just get so swept up into the story that I think, “Well, I can hammer out the world later, but FIRST I have to capture the story!” And that’s what happened with HYBRID.
So this week I took some time to give the world some attention, hammer out more details, and figure out which ones are relevant to the story I’m trying to tell. I’m hoping it will create a richer narrative experience than before.
This week, I collected feedback from my lovely alpha readers, who were so helpful with their comments. I then put together a revision plan and schedule, and I’m so excited to get started. It was nice to take a break, but I can’t wait to see how this next draft comes together!
This week, I compiled and formatted my manuscript and sent it off to my alpha readers. Now I just have to wait patiently for their feedback.
I also worked some more on the short story, since I have some time while I’m waiting for feedback on HYBRID. Maybe it’s going well. Maybe not. I’m just having fun writing it!
This week, I finished my master edit on the third draft of HYBRID!!! *happy dances* It feels so good to have finished a few drafts now. I have a much better feel for the story and for the characters than I did when I first started.
I also started writing a fantasy short story. This is new territory for me, because my ideas are usually better implemented as novels, not short stories. But I had the idea for this story a few weeks ago, and I thought it would just be so much fun to write. So I’m giving it a try. I have no idea what I’ll do with it when it’s finished. But it’s been a nice break for my brain, which has been in sci-fi mode for such a long time at this point.
Words edited (HYBRID): 35,571

Words written (short story): ??? I write all my first drafts by hand, so I don’t know how many words I have on the short story. Probably a couple thousand, if that.
